This priorities list has been superseded by our incredible massive spreadsheet.
We like the spreadsheet because the projects can be given a priority rating. You will find your to-do list on the fridge, with no more than three tasks at a time.
This static list is left here as an indication of the kind of work we are doing…
Priorities
- plant trees, shrubs, veges.
- move big A frame goat shelter to next paddock.
- New fenceline and gate at top of new orchard area.
- Prune avos
- Finish construction of bird netting over chicken gardens
- Move sawdust to empty chicken garden and start planting.
- Finish weedmat in apple orchard

Long-term plans for each area:
House
- Paint all the walls, doors and skirting boards.
Driveway.
- Weed.
- Cut down and burn all the honeysuckle climber that is taking over the trees.
- Prune back the hydrangeas
- Fill the pot-holes in the driveway
Animals
- Complete the bird-netting over the chicken gardens.
Shed
- stack firewood.
Arena
- Finish pizza oven.
Vege Garden
- Go down the road, alongside the motorway by Poripori Rd, cut some bamboo lengths. Feed the leaves to the goats and leave the bamboo to dry. It can be used to make tomato stakes and fruit tree stakes
Apple orchard
- Plant rhubarb
- Stakes for trees
- straighten up weedmat and extend weedmat area
New Orchard area
- Mark out position for new trees. Avos, persimmons, macas
- Make mulch areas where trees are to go.
- Fix fences and make new gate to keep out goats
- New fenceline/gates to protect orchard and provide access.
- plant wattle, locust, tagasaste
- Plant new trees.
Walnut Walk
- Weed down the walnut walk. Make the pathway clear. Use sawdust to clear pathways. Weedeat the nut-walk slope. We need to plant more Macadamias.
Avocado Orchard
- Prune avocado branches
- Mulch under the avocado trees with cardboard and sawdust
- Fertilise each month with either blood and bone, or seaweed.
- Weed search and destroy mission. Wooly nightshade, ink weed, blackberry.
- Plant black locust under each tree
Fields for goats
- Weed search and destroy. Gorse, thistle, fleabane, foxglove, ragwort.
Bush behind cottage.
- Weed, search and destroy. Wild cherry, thistle, blackberry.
- Check the electric fence-line is clear. Listen for shorting out.
Water hole
- Clear a pathway down to the water hole
- Create permanent steps down to the water hole
- Create hydro-generator
Over the bridge
- Fell the poplar trees – to firewood.
- Create a camping area.
